The best brisket recipe! My mom makes this every year on my Dad’s birthday. It’s a family favorite and can be done in the crockpot or oven and serves 6 adults.

Ingredients:
  • 4 pounds brisket of beef, lean and trimmed of fat.

  • 1 package (6 ounces) dried apricots

  • 1 envelope onion soup mix or French onion dip mix (about 1-1/2 ounces)

  • 1/2 cup currant jelly (can sub grape)

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup ketchup

  • 1 cup dry wine

Instructions
  • In a crock pot place the meat, sprinkle both sides with salt and pepper

  • Snip the apricots and place them over the meat.

  • Combine the remaining ingredients and pour the mixture over the brisket.

  • Cover and set the crockpot on high for 8 hours

For the oven

  • Place meat in a Dutch oven or 9x13 roasting pan

  • Set the oven to 350° and bake for about 2 hours.

  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

  • Slice meat and return it to the pan with the gravy. When ready to serve, heat in a 350° oven, covered, for another 30 minutes.
